Just got iPhoned & iClouded!

I have been using cell phones for over 17 years- have used several phones from the Bricky Motorolas to Nokias, RIMs and finally the iPhone and the iCloud recently.Have been with all the major carriers. All these years have kept the same number and just transfered the data every time there was a change...either to the device or to the carrier. No problem - until NOW! When I cracked the glass on the iPhone the Palo Alto Apple support team was kind enough to swap me with a replacement phone and transfered the data through iCloud! Took less than a few minutes. Didnt bother to check the details...as everything seemed so cool! Today I was searching for a couple of songs on my phone....couldn't find it!! Got a call from a friend whose number has been on my contact for all my cell phone experiences....but my iPhone didn't recognise it. Surprised I went through theContact list to see if I had accidentally swapped the first name and last name...no such luck. On closer scrutiny I find that my contact list disappeared from U through Z. How convenient? Losing my contacts and songs through the cloud.....I know I should have backed up....well I thought thats what ICloud was doing???? Growing pain or just need to get used to these king of glitches with a hyper groeth company??

Amazing Amazon playing the dirty game!

Been a hard core Amazon fan and user for as long as it has existed....from the WebVan days! critics abound.... I always thought that a Princeton Grad with 300k spend money from his parents might go places and also believed that the Retail Industry reaches a turning point once every 30-40 years..dating back to Woolworth and Sears and then Walmart.

Good things dont obviously last forever...sometime it is circumstantial and then there are situations which are intentional.

Early days of Amazon attraction was innovation and low cost. Then after awhile..they got smart and priced it marginally attractive and hence the only savings became the local state tax...which could be substantial if you live in one of those high tax states.

So far so good....beginning last year or so...the service and cost have started getting to be deceptive and manipulative....

- from UPS shipment it became local regional carriers...no name companies with no predictable traction or delivery times....well i guess they have to save somewhere...

- then came the most annoying and manipulative aspect of ecommerce which is often found in ebay type of transactions.....

I for one have always believed in the pricing listed on Amazon To be legit and never bothered to check it untli recently when I ended up paying twice the amount for a Hard copy book....something bothered me and when investigated i found that Amazon has started posting third party products and inventory as Amazon's own and shows their pricing on the product making it appear that it is infact owned and sold by AMAZON....Well these third party retailers I am sure not all of them....have gotten smarter and sell products at a higher price if it is not carried by Amazon...obviously more money for Amazon..but innocent loyal customers do get cheated by Amazon without realizing that Amazon is knowingly becoming one of those EBay type of price gouging merchants..beware!

Leave it to Comcast to BLOCK Channel Surfing!

It takes a lot to stay cable given what Comcast has been doing to its users. From TCI days to Comcast the rates have gone up from $22 to $65 with very little to show for it.

Yes its good management and good for the shareholders! But in a monopolistic market - its hardly fair! Well one can always go to Satellite TV?

Beyond the bitching the laziness took over and decided to switch over to Comcast Digital!

They have such a superior technology (??) it provides for Local & regional advertisements. Now thats really painful compared to National as the quality of advertisement sucks!

As if thats not enough - trying to change channels- or channel surfing is very frustrating as it takes 3-4 seconds YES it takes 3-4 seconds to change from one channe to another!

PLEASE CANT SOMEONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS?

Now they want to own Programming and content as well?? PLEASE!!SOMEBODY STOP THESE GUYS!!!

Post Office and Spamming!

Watching Seinfield's Kramer go to the US Post office and complaint about mail delivery and saying he wanted out of Main was Funny! Till one day I experienced something which made me rethink!

I missed picking up my mails for a few days and when I finally went to pick up - I saw the usual orange notice from post office to come and pick up my mails from the post office as my mail box was full!

When I finally had the opportunity to go to the post office it was well over a week - and the couterperson after verifying my IDs and all went away for a goo 15 minutes or so- when she came back with my boat load of mail - she wasnt really happy! She started complaining that I need to take my mails every day & so on and warned that one more day and they would have returned them to senders.

Suddenly that statement brought to memory that Kramer experience -and told her that may they should stop delivering those junk mails and it will not over flow my mail box- she was furious at that remark and said No they pay the post office and we cannot do that!! Saw the irony in it and suddenly realised soemthing which made me appologise for not picking up the mails and promised I will try to do it on a timely manner and walked away without creating a scene!

THink about it for a minute- In post internet era we buy software and pay more for the ISPs to stop spamming our virtual mail boxes! And to a large extent from Microsoft to Yaoohs and Googles they do a good job of preventing spams- what they miss there are paid softwares that do it for us....NOW Post Office does the same thing right at your door step and gets paid to do that and you cant do a damn about it!

One Bitch a Day!

What if every one gets to Bitch only once a day? Would that make this world a happy place or would we become wise and choose what to bitch on? Enabling us to focus on more positive and constructive conversations and ideas- and not brood over?

Does bitching enable us to release our stress and tension from those disruptive thoughts?
